Ever since I went through the process of re-painting my track car, I have really enjoyed painting. With the use of an airbrush, 1.8mm HVLP gun, and a 0.8mm HVLP gun, I can paint just about any prop that needs painting!
The pictures you see here are of a replica Cable's arm from Deadpool 2. The shiny chrome pieces are sintra that were formed via heat gun into the shapes needed. The person making the arm then prepped the pieces for clear coat by sanding, priming, and painting them Dupli-Color Hot Rod Black.
To get the required finish, I sprayed automotive 2K clear coat via a 0.8mm HVLP gun over all pieces. Due to their size, I only needed a single medium wet coat. After curing for 24 hours, I then sprayed them with Duralumen. The Duralumen is only a tint that requires a gloss black base coat; so I then had to seal it. After another 24-hour curing period, I top-coated the silver with another medium wet coat of automotive 2K clear coat. The end result is a shiny chrome that will make a great base layer for weathering.
