For my Eagle Scout project, I was presented with the opportunity to work with the Chattanooga Zoo in their jaguar exhibit. They came to me with a couple of different problems that they needed help with in their exhibit. So, with these problems, I went to the drawing board!
The Chattanooga Zoo told me that they wanted to make the exhibit more exciting for their two jaguars. They asked me to create something that would improve their quality of life.
To make the exhibit better for the jaguars, I decided to make a two-tier climbing structure for them. I started by sketching different ideas. Once I decided on the general design, I moved on to determining the materials, structural design, and different features I would include.
I created a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the project and successfully raised over $800. With the help of other scouts, I used these funds to purchase materials. I planned two workdays around the zoo and the schedule of the jaguars. To kick off each workday, I gave a presentation to explain our goals for the day. Throughout the project, I oversaw and led a team of over 20 people of various ages, ensuring that the work was completed efficiently while maintaining high morale and making the experience enjoyable.
